Benefits of Learning to Drive a Stick Shift
Learning to use a stick shift vehicle takes more time and effort. However, the benefits outnumber the negatives. For instance, manual transmissions are generally cheaper to maintain, get better gas mileage, and don't deteriorate as quickly as their automatic counterparts. Because of the need to shift gears, drivers are better able to listen when their vehicle needs to shift and are generally required to keep one hand on the stick at all times. These prevents your hands from being idle and discourages the driver from taking risks like eating, drinking, or using their phone.
